Application Requirements
KBDI will be participating in the Fall & Spring Application cycles. We have 9 spots available for our January 2025 start and 20 spots available for our August 2025 start.

Master’s Degree Requirement
Starting with the Spring 2023 match, all applicants must complete a graduate degree to meet ACEND requirements. KBDI will offer the following three tracks:
1) Standalone Dietetic Internship for those with a graduate degree or those that have been accepted to a graduate program and will have successfully completed a semester with a 3.0 or better before orientation.
2) MPS/DI- Master of Professional Studies- Leadership in Nutrition and Dietetic Internship. Graduate coursework is offered through Middle Tennessee State University. Interns will complete coursework and supervised practice simultaneously.
3) MBA/DI- Master of Business Administration and Dietetic Internship. Graduate coursework is offered through Saint Joseph’s University. Interns will complete coursework and supervised practice simultaneously.
Starting in the summer of 2024, KBDI will use the new dietetic internship application process.
The DICAS application portal opens on August 5, 2024 for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 application cycles.

Applicants are responsible for submitting an official copy of each transcript from every university they have attended. The KBDI Program is looking for candidates with at least a 3.0 GPA.
The transcript should be sent directly from the university to DICAS. All transcripts must be received by DICAS in an unopened university envelope. DICAS will not accept photocopies, non-official transcripts, opened transcripts, and “Issued to Student” transcripts.
Applicants should have their transcripts sent to DICAS as early as possible to increase the likelihood of the transcripts being scanned into the application by February 15th. The applicant is responsible for monitoring their application for transcript receipt.

KBDI places an emphasis on those applications demonstrating relevant work and/or volunteer experience within the dietetics profession and business roles.
There is no recommended minimum amount of work or volunteer hours an applicant must have for this program.
We consider applicants with all backgrounds and experiences. We are also interested in candidates with diverse lived experiences.
KBDI requires the standard personal statement to be completed as part of the DICAS application process. The personal statement should be a maximum of 8000 characters or approximately 1000 words. Applicants are expected to answer the standard five questions provided in DICAS.

- What are your short and long-term goals?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
- What other information do you consider important for the selection decision?
Candidates should also address their plan to complete a graduate degree.
If currently enrolled in a graduate program, please submit a supplemental document outlining which courses are needed to complete the degree and when you plan to take them. You will need to be ~50% complete with your master’s program (if not one of our partner programs) by the time of orientation.
If enrolling in one of the Master’s Track Options offered by KBDI, please indicate which one you plan to complete (pending acceptance).

Applicants should include which attributes they exhibit with examples in their personal statement.
- Three letters of recommendation are required as part of the application.
- No additional recommendation letters beyond the three are desired.
- Applicants should choose references who are familiar with their nutrition-based knowledge, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and professional behaviors.
- Recommendations should come from one professor, one work manager or volunteer supervisor, and the third from either a professor, work manager, or a volunteer supervisor.
Applicants are also responsible for submitting a less than five minute video interview as part of their application. Applicants will need to develop the video and provide the video website address in their personal statement. There are several questions the applicant should answer as part of the video interview. As the KBDI is a distance education program, interns will be required to locate their own supervised practice sites and preceptors.
The program staff can offer all interns a extensive list of potential preceptors and practice locations to help interns secure rotations (this is provided after matching).
Internship staff will aid interns in finding practice locations and preceptors to their best of their ability. KBDI has an extensive network and numerous connections to leverage to assist interns with site selection. However, interns are ultimately responsible for this aspect of the program.

A GRE score is not required by the KBDI. Applicants can skip the GRE section on the DICAS application for our program.
For applicants interested in the MPS/DI track with Middle Tennessee, GRE scores may be required depending on the applicant’s GPA. Visit the MPS/DI page for more information.
The GRE requirement will be waived for those applying to the MBA/DI track with Saint Joseph’s University.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) requires individuals with foreign degrees meet specific educational requirements and follow a unique process to obtain Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Nutrition Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) credentials. International applicants must have either completed a Foreign Dietitian Education Programs or an International Dietitian Education Programs. The 5 programs that are accredited include: United Arab Emirates University, American University of Beirut, Qatar University, Universidad Iberoamericana, and Kyung Hee University. Foreign applicants to the KBDI will need to complete the same application steps that domestic applicants complete. Please view more information provided on the ACEND website.
Admission Process
The KBDI is proud to partner with the following DPD Programs with affiliation agreements to offer qualified applicants from these programs the option of preselect.

To qualify for preselect, applicants must complete all parts of the applicant requirements and upload their application to the DICAS portal. The KBDI will accept 0 – 20 interns for each spring cycle in preselect.
All application materials must be completed and uploaded into DICAS by January 10. The next step will be interviews with qualified applicants. February 1 has been established as the preselect deadline for the April computer match. All applicants will be notified by the KBDI by or before February 1 identifying our decision.
Candidates granted preselect into the KBDI do not have to participate in the match that is hosted by D&D Digital.
*Candidates from The University of Alabama must have completed their MS program or currently be enrolled in a graduate program at UA.
For applicants applying for preselect it is highly encouraged to schedule an information call with our faculty before submitting your application. If you are unable to upload your application video or any supplemental documentation into DICAS, we can share a link with you to upload your materials. Please email us to schedule time to speak.
In the Program Designation section of the application, you will be able to find the Komplete Business Dietetic Internship listed under the state of New Jersey because that is where the KBDI Headquarters are located.
Once the match application deadline has closed, all applications to the program will undergo an initial screen by our director, manager and assistant. All applications submitted to the program are initially screened using two criteria. The application is first screened for completion to ensure all sections are completed. Second, the DPD and GPAs are reviewed to ensure they meet the minimum requirements. If the application makes it through the initial screening process, then a full review is completed by our director and manager.
The full review is comprised of seven components. The personal letter is reviewed for the answers to the required questions as well as to ensure the link to the video interview has been provided. Work and volunteer experience is reviewed for the amount and types of experience obtained up to this point. Participation in extracurricular activities, such as university-sponsored clubs, fraternities, sororities, or sports is also reviewed. Highlighting leadership positions in these activities can strengthen your application. References are reviewed to ensure one is obtained from each of the requested individuals as well as for the content of the letter. Finally, the video interview is reviewed to ensure all questions were answered and to evaluate the quality of the answers.
Program Requirements
Orientation is held virtually over 6 days. Interns have the option to attend in-person, however most interns opt to attend virtually.
For those participating in the Spring 2024 match, orientation will be held:
August 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21st, 2024 for approximately 6 hours a day.
Orientation is mandatory with no exceptions.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION / IMMUNIZATIONS
Each intern must complete a physical examination, any necessary immunizations, a two step PPD test, and a drug screening prior to starting the internship. The Physical Examination Form must be completed, signed and dated by a physician, and submitted at least one month before orientation. Interns need to complete all immunizations, a PPD test, a drug screening, and other health clearances listed on the Physical Examination Form. All medical information must be current as April of the year interns begin the program and remain current for the duration of the internship. Any costs incurred for these or any other related medical expenses are the responsibility of the dietetic intern.
STUDENT INSURANCE (HEALTH, PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY, CAR)
Interns are required to have professional liability insurance as well as health insurance and automobile insurance. Professional liability insurance can be obtained from Mercer for approximately $75 – $100. Interns will need to name the Komplete Business Dietetic Internship as an additional insured on their Professional Liability Policy. Interns will need to obtain liability insurance to cover a minimum of $1,000,000 per incidence and $2,000,000 aggregate for coverage during their internship. Interns will submit their insurance declaration page prior to orientation. Interns may access Healthcare.gov for health insurance on the exchange and learn more about private insurance options from the Cigna Guidance and Aetna Guidance for young adults.
Interns must show proof of health insurance, and automobile insurance during the orientation period.
Housing is not provided to interns by the KBDI. This internship is a distance education program, and allows students to live in any area that is convenient for them, and offers sites to complete supervised practice rotations. If you are relocating for the internship, begin to consider housing options upon acceptance.
Interns must have a vehicle in reliable working condition for transportation to supervised practice sites and to the B.Komplete Headquarters as applicable. As this is a distance education program, rotation locations will be determined by where the intern selects to complete his/her supervised practice. KDBI is not liable for safety in travel to or from any internship site resulting in accidents, injury, or mortality. For this reason we require that interns provide proof of car insurance and medical insurance before starting at their respective sites. Transportation and parking costs are dependent upon the sites selected by the intern.
