What Makes KBDI the Best Dietetic Internship

The road to becoming a Registered Dietitian is hard work and it’s important to have a supportive team that has your back throughout the whole process. In this blog post, we will cover how we support our interns and what makes KBDI the best dietetic internship for aspiring entrepreneurs.

You’ve probably gathered at this point that we’re a dietetic internship with a business focus. Our business emphasis and commitment to supporting interns with their future business aspirations is one of the ways that our program stands out!

We can’t think of very many other programs that truly support their interns with each step of the business creation process. And even if you decide not to launch a business, we’ll still support you 100%. Our primary goal is to help you find your own unique path in dietetics.

Apart from our unique business focus, we also offer several other benefits. Read on to discover what makes us the best dietetic internship.

Dietetic Interns in Philidelphia

Ample Vacation Time & Holiday Breaks

We allow interns to take up to 2 weeks of vacation time in addition to set holidays and breaks. Interns also have 3 personal days for sick days or appointments and are given a winter break. Past interns have really appreciated the ability to still travel with friends and family. Whether you use the time to travel or relax, we are very supportive of restoration time.

I would confidently recommend KBDI to a future intern because of how customizable the internship experience is! You get to design your whole schedule. Beryl and Kelan emphasize the importance of self-care and making sure interns can create an internship schedule that doesn’t sacrifice the things that really matter to us.

Flexible Rotation Schedules

Interns are encouraged to take 3-5 days in-between each rotation to complete curriculum work and prepare for their next rotation. Starting a new rotation can feel like starting a new job and interns really appreciate the additional time to prepare. Interns are also able to schedule rotations around planned vacations or family events. Traditional internship programs rarely allow for time off, let alone scheduled vacations.

Personal & Group Business Coaching

Throughout the internship, you will develop the business idea that you want to pitch at the end of the program. Interns will receive ongoing feedback on their business idea and coaching on how to move forward! You will leave our internship with the skills and knowledge needed to launch the first phase of your business.

Frequent Meetings with KBDI Staff

You will meet with KBDI Program Directors after each rotation. KBDI directors will also hold open office hours and are readily available via email for any additional support that is needed. In a post-internship survey, 90% of interns indicated that they were very satisfied with the support provided by KBDI staff.

I would absolutely recommend KBDI to a future intern! If you enjoy learning at your own pace and being in control of your own schedule, a distance DI is the perfect fit for you. If you dream of being in private practice, KBDI is a no-brainer. And if you’re worried about feeling unsupported, don’t, because Kelan and Beryl are immensely helpful, responsive, organized, and well-connected, which made contracting rotation sites a seamless experience.

Mentorship Program

Interns have the option to be paired with one of our board members or partners for additional mentorship if desired. Our board members have very diverse backgrounds and work in all different industries. Learn more about our board members here.

Close Knit Cohort

During our class days, we work to foster a collaborative and supportive cohort. You will get to know your peers and will be able to lean on them for support during the internship. In the past, our graduates have completed rotations together and have had meet ups across the country.

Even though it’s a distance dietetic internship, you’ll have peers across the country that are there to support you.

FNCE Watch Party
I strongly recommend KBDI as a distance program. The program has a robust curriculum and well designed activities throughout the 9 months that really exposes the interns to think outside of the box with new ideas and mindset, while still teaching us how to handle what is “inside of the box”, the traditional way of doing business. I am finishing the program feeling inspired and excited about implementing my business plan and what I learned in my own professional career. I loved my experience with the KBDI program. It truly is the best dietetic internship!
