Why I chose a Distance Dietetic Internship

Join KBDI intern, Juliana Grebing, as she shares all about what led her to choose a distance dietetic internship and how she ended up selecting the Komplete Business Dietetic Internship as her top choice!

Juliana also shares about her current rotations and how the KBDI curriculum has benefited her overall learning experience.

Why I only applied to one distance DI program!

Finishing up university was a big challenge but navigating through all DI options and choosing one that matched my expectations was no small task! It took me the last year of university to find out specific information about each program and then decide which one would work best for my interests.

I made up my mind as soon as I watched the KBDI open house and corresponded with Beryl Krinsky, the program director. I quickly realized there is no other program that matches the KBDI curriculum for someone interested in running a private practice, opening a business, or interested in learning a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes – and that is when I chose KBDI as my first and only option to match.

The curriculum, flexibility and support have exceeded expectations.

The fact that KBDI covers all general curricula such as food service, clinical, and community and in addition ties it all to planning, developmental, and admin skills sealed the deal for me! And KBDI gives me the flexibility to find rotation sites of my choosing in any location in the US that works best for me. I am learning so much and love my dietetic internship experience. The program far exceeded my expectations and I am very happy that I chose a distance dietetic internship.

Virtual Class Days have enhanced my learning.

During class days, which happen remotely from the comfort of my house twice a month, we learn about business and have a guest speaker to give us insight into real-life experiences and challenges.

Kelan Sarnoff teaches Medical Nutrition Therapy focusing on different disease states each time and then we go through RD exam questions, and learn strategies for goal setting, stress management and more.

We even meditate together on some class days. I am always amazed by how innovative this curriculum is and how the director is so groundbreaking as far as how KBDI fulfills the curriculum while providing the opportunity to develop much-needed skills that we all need to function after we get our RD license.

The business plans are a unique aspect of a business dietetic internship.

Since the program started I have learned a lot about how to propose and plan changes for my rotation sites. I have prepared two business plans so far, one for a skilled nursing facility and other for a hospital.

I followed a business plan guide and describe areas such as: what problem my idea was solving, what was the financial impact, and what time frame it will take to implement the proposed plan.

This alone has been a huge opportunity for growth and it has trained me to look beyond the idea. Now I think of all the ways it may affect the current system and all that can go wrong or right with it.

I am so glad I chose a distance dietetic internship!

I am so glad I chose KBDI because I feel more confident now that I know what to expect after becoming licensed, and what steps to take to start my professional life as a brand-new registered dietitian!
